Project Description

I have used CleanOxide on a number of applications in our vineyard for the 2010 – 2011 season.

The first trial we injected CleanOxide into our irrigation system to clean and remove the build up of algae and residues of fertilisers left in the irrigation lines from the previous season. This was done in June 2010 when the grape vines were dormant. Normally we would use chlorine like all other vineyard producers do, but the results you get are average. Also the residues of chlorine left in the soil are questionable. The process of the fertigating is we have a fertigation holding tank that holds a volume of 2,000 litres. Inside the tank we have PVC pipe work around the base of it with small holes that air is pumped into to help with the mixing / agitating of any products to be mixed. The walls of tank had residues stuck there from last season and when we mixed the CleanOxide into the 2,000L of water, the residues disappeared in front of our eyes. This I have never seen before. When the tank was emptied, it looked like it was brand new. Normally before we do this, we would turnthe tank on its side and scrub the walls with a brush…not anymore. We also cut a sample of dripline from one of the vineyard blocks before the application to see the residues on the inside of the pipe and the same afterwards and the dripper was spotless after the fertigation of CleanOxide. The other major benefit is because it is biodegradable, there are no residues left in the soil.

Rates used

(example) South Block area = 22ha

40ppm x 2,000L (fert tank size)
7,500 (75% solution)
= 10.7 Litres CleanOxide – Rounded off to 10L

Rate / ha = 10L of C102 divided by area of 22ha = 455m1/ha

The second trial we used CleanOxide to clean the sulphur and copper residues off our Croplands Quantum Mist fungicide sprayer. The machine is 4 years old and has been steam cleaned at 100 degrees celsius after each spray pass in the vineyard, but there were parts of the machine that still had reasonable build up of residues that didn’t matter how much steam cleaning we gave it, it still wouldn’t come off. We applied the Clean Oxide with a hand spray bottle mixed with water, let it soak on the machine for up to 10 minutes then used the steam cleaner to remove the product. We had very good results at the rates we used and removed most of the sulphur and copper but a higher rate would probably do better. We will be doing a higher rate at the end of the season.

Rates used

10ml Clean Oxide mixed into a 1 litre hand sprayer bottle of water End of season clean up, planning to use 20m1/ IL water.
